"The Flowerheads" are super special to me, simply due to the sheer longevity of the project, from concept to implementation!
I was showing my work at the Austin Art Fair in Austin,TX., where Sher and I had a great booth full of my wet-plate work and were enjoying a 3-day show. We did really well and were wrapping up, when in walked a wonderful bubbly lady from Atlanta. Her name was Robyn Spizman. She walked around the booth and bought 3 large framed murals. We were ecstatic (and a little shock). Usually, at art fairs, small pieces such as prints move really well, but seldom the high ticket 30x40 pieces!
In short, she introduced herself as a freelance writer with a syndicated radio show, who also did features on the Today show. It was the beginning of a long friendship. We were so impressed by her, we drove the pieces to her house in Atlanta. This project is an evolution of our friendship, her writing and my concept imagery. Ciao!
