Masks

Protective masking has become an everyday sight since the onset of Covid-19, yet masks themselves come in many shapes and forms with varying purposes, allowing us to engage socially, creatively, and physically with the world around us. We featured these masks at our first post-pandemic gallery showing as a means of moving forward from 2020 by exploring how masks have served us in the past and the present.

Uniquely shaped yet functional plague doctor mask
Theatrical luchador mask
Celebratory and exaggerated Carnivale mask
Ambiguity and allure of the masquerade mask
Elaborate traditional Mardi Gras mask
Medical face mask
Armored hockey goalie mask
Bright commemorative sugar skull mask
Animation and whimsy of the Halloween mask

Flowerheads

"The Flowerheads" are super special to me, simply due to the sheer longevity of the project, from concept to implementation!
I was showing my work at the Austin Art Fair in Austin,TX., where Sher and I had a great booth full of my wet-plate work and were enjoying a 3-day show. We did really well and were wrapping up, when in walked a wonderful bubbly lady from Atlanta. Her name was Robyn Spizman. She walked around the booth and bought 3 large framed murals. We were ecstatic (and a little shock). Usually, at art fairs, small pieces such as prints move really well, but seldom the high ticket 30x40 pieces!

In short, she introduced herself as a freelance writer with a syndicated radio show, who also did features on the Today show. It was the beginning of a long friendship. We were so impressed by her, we drove the pieces to her house in Atlanta. This project is an evolution of our friendship, her writing and my concept imagery. Ciao!

City Wine Market

This City Wine Market series is quite special to me because of its conceptual and theatrical nature. The client let me run with my own ideas, and, as with most of my wet-plate work, I try to push the boundaries of the conventional . The series was inspired by old 1930's silent cinema verite films.
Fun Fact: my wife was the patient model in all of these scenes! I am a lucky guy!

Cheers!

The Last Carnival

This piece was inspired by our property and the serene quality and a friends little boy who was curious of our set. This was a wet plate shot composed on three tintypes and later tinted in post.Enjoy!
